Hi, I've been looking for some info. While looking for my next truck i noticed a 49 i was looking at had wood in the floor of the bed and a 50 i was looking at had metal in the floor of the bed. Both looked correct. What year did they change to metal or was this an option?

What model truck was it? 48-52 F-1's had metal floors. Many of the metal floors rusted away and the wood was bad, They just replace the floor with new wood. You can buy the metal floor piece in repo, but it's over $500.00 . F-2 and F-3's had just a wooden floor, no metal. Barry 50 F-1

Barry, To answer your question both the '49 and '50 were F1 half ton. The 49 had a wood floor and the 50 had a metal floor. This message was edited by matt47025 on 3-20-14 @ 8:25 AM

Ok, the F-1's had a wood sub-floor and a metal skin over that. If you find a truck with a complete metal skin, that's rare. Most rot away. Look at the bed sides where the floor meets and see if there's any evidence of spot welds. The skins were spot welded in somehow after the sub floor was scr*w*d down to the cross members. I've heard that some of the trucks, depending on where they were built, did not have the metal skin. But I can't say that is correct, as the 6-7 trucks I've parted, had evidence of the skin being there. Barry 50 F-1

The '48 thru early '50 F-1 models had metal over wood in the bed floor. Late '50 and '51-'52 F-1 models had only wood. The side panels of the bed on the '48 thru early '50 F-1 models had a raised section and the fender was formed to fit over the raised portion. The late '50 and '51-'52 F-1 side panels were flat. For the '50 models, you have to know whether it is early or late. Richard

51F1: Your comments are consistent with my personal experience. We had a 51-F1 that we purchased new in 1951 in Iowa, which came with a wooden bed.
