Having owned and driven For Cab Over Engine (COE) trucks during my lifetime, it was a bit of a surprise to me that independent coach builders actually supplied this configuration before Ford adopted it: "From the industry's DEARBORN LINE CAB-OVER-ENGINE FOR FORD TRUCKS MORE ROOM FOR PAYLOAD Dearborn Line Cab-Over-Engine Conversions give you a whale of a lot of room for payload and more profits! Moving the cab over the engine Increases the payload space of your Ford Truck by 80% to 60%. You have the payload apace of a large van and retain the fuel economy and maneuverability of a small truck. See your nearest Ford Dealer or write us direct. TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERS, Inc. PO BOX IK HIGHLAND PARK, DETROIT" For more information: http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/t/transportation_engineers/transportation_engineers.htm This message was edited by Stroker on 3-9-14 @ 2:04 PM

I've always had a soft spot for COE's, Dan. We had one, a short wheelbase '46 Ford with a dump box. It was a useful unit, particularly in confined spaces. My only complaint was it became an oven in the summer, even with the vent flaps and windows open.

Super: Yes, they were HOT (literally). At least Ford had the presence of mind to retain their 39-style cab with the crank-out windshield through 47. Didn't do much good though unless you were moving, and in orchard operations we spent a lot of time stopped while loading.
