Topic: 1947 Ford Panel Truck Seat Question

harv    -- 01-23-2014 @ 6:45 PM
Hello all, i have been restoring a 1947 halfton panel delivery 79A-80C and have been trying to figure out what the correct seat would be in this ol truck? When i got the truck few yrs back, it came with an old split bench seat like 60/40 style. The seat was mounted on old wooden brackets and the metal seat springs including backrests were very unrestorable. The seats had some type of fabric pull rope on each that would allow you to pull them back into place similar to an old cadillac style bench seat.I figure these were not original. Can anyone here possiby give me some info on what the correct seat or seats are for this model truck. I was told by several ford collectors that they came with 2 bucket style seats and another ford guy that they only had bench seats like the pickups in 1947. Im slowly coming down the homestretch on this restoration. Really dont want to go to the junkyard and end up putting in a $25 bench seat from a salvaged soda can,lol... Any help would be great. Thank you

The Body Parts list shows separate sets for the driver and passenger. The driver's seat is adjustable and the passenger seat is fixed. You should see mounting hols in the floorboard for the 2 seats.

The Panel Delivery body style is 82-A for the 114" wheel base and 82 for the 122" wheelbase.

Tom, thank you for the very helpful info. So i guess i gotta find the orig seperate seats. And 82A i guess is what this body is. So if i were to classify this ford, would it be a 79A-80C-82A ? Thank you,Shawn

Does any member here possibly have a picture of these seats that they can share with me. I was told that there is a gentleman in CA that has an orig 1947 1/2 ton panel delivery.Hopefully he is a member and will see this topic. Again, any help would be great!

  Harv,

If you join the V-8 Club, you will get a Roster that lists all of the members and their vehicles. You will also have access to the Club's Adviser panel to answer your questions. These members specialize in certain models and have collections of materials that the rest of us do not have.

Tom, thanks fo the info. i guess im gonna have to write to advisors with my question. I searched for 2hrs thru the thick roster book i have and couldnt find anyone with the 79A-80C-82A ford panel truck. my last EFv8 issue i got vol 50 #6, showed me a 1st place 1947 panel truck that was in in the golden jamboree. i searched for his name in the roster and couldnt find him listed. so again, if anyone can give me some input or possibly a picture on the orig seat or seats for this truck. Thank you,Harv

There are 2 panel trucks for sale on the AACA forum. He hasn't posted any interior photos, but you could ask for some.

I might be able to help. I have a panel and I know of someone who has one that same year. I also have parts to the passenger seat if you need them. Send to me a pm with a way to get in touch with you.
