Hey guys, working on two 3/4 ton pu's. Interested in a few differences here. The 41 speedo shows max speed of 60 mph, with shift points marked. The 40 shows 100 mph, no shift points. Trans in the 60 mph one is way larger then the other, with what might be a reverse lock out on shift lever, or to shift into a "granny" low? Also the 60 mph one has a front fender brace, shaped much like the other, but mounts spring loaded on the front crossmember and uses 2 bolt holes on either side to attatch to the fenders. The other mount off a large cast bracket coming of the front of the crossmember and attached to the fenders with a single bolt on either side. Also the Ford script on the 41 on the dash is mounted on a removal plate, and the other Ford script mounted directly on the dash. All of this appears to be 100% original. Also neither had rear shocks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dennis

1941 was the first year the 4-cylinder 9N engine was available in trucks. The 60 MPH speedo sort of indicates this possibility. Needless to say, the 4-cylinder didn't stay in production for trucks very long but that may have been partly because of the war starting. The G-series 6-cylinder also started production in 1941 but it had similar horse power to the V8.

I'm not sure about the shocks but the chassis parts book doesn't mention rear ones for trucks. They did offer the adapter kits for tube shocks on trucks though so there must have been a call to improve things.

60 hp speedometer indicates a 4 spd trans with the shift points on the face--usually rear gears are really low. trucks from 3/4 ton thru 1 1/2 ton are like this. the 100 mph speedometer is in three speed equiped trucks and most have a higher rear end ratio--but not much higher. the lock out is for reverse gear, lift up lock, move shift lever to right and then back to put into reverse. I have a 3/4 ton 41 stakebed and a 41 1 1/2 ton stakebed. 40 was the only year to have a raised area on the dash for the script
