Topic: 40 PU cab wood placement?

lonns40pickup    -- 10-18-2013 @ 1:19 PM
I bought a cab wood package for my 1940 Ford 1/2 ton Ford from Macs but got no placement detail? Can anyone suggest a good book with assemble diagrams that help me out?
Thank you, Lonn R

Lonn, is the wood you received in three pieces and has dovetailed ends where the pieces fit together? If the wood is not dovetailed it is not like original. If not dovetailed send it back to Mac's. The correct wood is sold by Northern Classic Trucks in Michigan. It's more expensive, but it is correct. Without the dovetailing the pieces can move around under the cab. Also there is some thin rubber belting that goes between the wood and the frame for a cushion. Northern Classic Trucks will also send you the correct placement of the wood with photos and diagrams. My truck had the original wood and that's how I know about the thin belting.

Thank you for the heads up. The 8 pieces I got from Macs are not dovetailed they are all milled pieces of wood. I will try and get Macs to take the wood back but I may have kept it to long. They were one of the first things I ordered, not realizing it would be a long while before I actually would use them. Do you have the diagrams still?

I'm not sure, but I think I did not save them. If you check the website for Northern Classic Trucks look at Cab Parts. The menu will drop down and you can click on the photo of the 40-41 pickup wood. That will show you the wood pieces in place.
