Topic: Marmon Flathead bad running

Hello, I'm trying to restore a 1959 SUMB Marmon French Army truck. Its been standing for two years and neglected prior to that. The Flathead is reluctant to start and run for any length of time (2 mins), pumped out tank and filters, blow through fuel lines and manual pump seems to be working. Do I have a carburattor problem? Also spark is quite yellow, still with sealed coil/ condensor/ dizzy, can anybody advise on swapping the military units with a more modern electronic unit? The vehicle is 24V if that helps. Thanks, Paul

I'm not familiar with the distributor setup on the french block, a faint recolection tells me that the distributor is at the rear ? If so, Bubba's got a brand X conversion that should do you some good. The yellow spark and running for only two minutes is defin itely a coil issue though. Your coil may have been damaged by high voltage input, and overheats in the two minutes before quitting. Replacement of the coil/condenser and attention to the correct input voltage should be all you need to do.
