Topic: 1938 pick up carburetor

What would be the best brand of carburetor to use on a 1938 1/2 ton pick up that would be the least troublesome? Stromberg 97 or chandler groves 94.
Thanks in advance

Both were supplied throughout the '38 model year, so either is correct. The CG would be my choice: It will perform better, easier to work on, is less common than the 97, and is a conversation starter at the Thursday Night Drive In because many guys have never seen a 94 without a model number!

As usual, I agree with my friend, Alan. Before we get flack from the 97 fans, they were popular with the multiple carb rodders because they fit the intake manifolds better. The problems arose when the 97s were not properly reassembled when service was necessary. The "emulsion tube" design requires special tools and technique, and many were butchered. Repro 97s are being produced, but are pricey, to say the east.
