  Can the brake cross shaft assembly (1937 Ford pickup with original mechanical brakes)be removed from the vehicle without pulling the rear axle back? It looks close but I was hoping someone might know. Thanks, Norm Rodenkirch

  It has been a long time, but I recall that the cross shaft is held by brackets on the ends that are secure by bolts. Once you disconnect the clevises to the wheel cables, and the link to the pedal, it should come out. That whole system on the 37-38 cars and trucks is complicated. You can find a diagram on page 19 of the "green book".
