Topic: '53 F-100 Fuel Gauge/Sending Unit

Hi All...my question is regarding using a stock fuel gauge and a reproduction fuel sending unit...my truck is converted to 12 volts, but I read in the Mid-Fifty F-100 Parts catalog that I can use their aftermarket sending unit of 78 to 10 ohms with the stock gauge....so I tried it and the gauge continually reads "Full"...so I tried a 6 volt reducer on the gauge which now shows the tank at half full when it is close to empty....it almost sounds like I need a new 12 volt gauge to be compatible with this sending unit..any help anyone can give here will be appreciated, as I am not good with electronics...
Thanks!

You did need the volt drop to the gauge. In order for it to read correctly you may have to adjust the float arm.

Thanks...I'll try the voltage reducer again and pull the sending unit to double-check its positioning and will bend as needed....a little trial and error here...I appreciate it....

The aftermarket sending units will not work as well as an original unit. If you still have your original unit, you can have it repaired and use it with the voltage dropping resister.

Thanks Tom....I do not have the original unit, but I know where I can get one, so I will try and get it to work that way....I appreciate the info!
