Topic: '40 PU window glass

chrismac    -- 11-25-2012 @ 4:51 PM
I have a terrific unrestored 1940 Ford pickup. Both door windows are broken. New glass won't fit the patina of the truck or match the front and back windows. I'd like to find original 1940 dated glass panels for each door. 6/40 would be perfect! Would anyone have a single or a pair?
Thanks,
Chris

Glass specialists, such as Sanders, can supply glass with the "bugs" applied. The "patina" is due to the discoloration of the center layer of the window due to exposure. It is common in old safety glass, and even if you find old glass, impossible to match directly. We usually replace all glass in such a vehicle to restore appearance. It isn't cheap, but really improves a vehicle.

chrismac, you might post a wanted ad in the classified section of this site. Sometime back a guy was looking for 37 glass with patina and I just happened to have several pieces. I sent them to him just for the cost of the shipping. Another place to advertise would be on the Fordbarn; www.fordbarn.com. I suspect you may get some responses from guys who are restoring a pickup. Also you might be able to use sedan or coupe glass and have it cut down to your specs.

Like to see some photos of your truck some time if you can. I have a 41 un-restored panel.

thanks.
