  Hi All
I am new to this web site and need your help. I have a 1949 Ford F1 V8` Panel truck. The Gas tank I think is original .Many people have messed with this truck before I bought it. My question is about the fuel line were it connects to the tank. My tank has a brass compression fitting that screws into the tank at the same level and just ahead of the fuel fill neck. This Tank needs about 6 Gallons of Gas just to reach this outlet. Is this the way they did it in 1949 or did the fuel line extend into the tank with a fuel pickup?

Thank You
Dave A.

There should be a pickup tube attached to the inside of the fitting for the fuel line. I say "should", because these are known to rust and rot off over time. Replacing the pickup can require removing and opening the tank. If the pickup tube is rotted, it is likely the rest of the tank may be in poor condition, as well. Many of us have switched to plastic tanks. Drake used to handle a full line of tanks. The panel truck used a different tank than the pickups, if I remember correctly, but some used the 11A-9002 tank that was for the wagons. I';d call C&G for info. 800/266-0470.
