Topic: 37 fuel guage

Lenny    -- 04-30-2012 @ 10:12 AM
I have a 1937 pickup with the original dash guages.
The fuel guage needs replacing.
Does anyone know where I can purchse one? Mac"s has an electric guage, not mechanical.
Thanks, Len

Try Bob's Speedometer in Michigan. They have a website. C&G sometimes has NOS gauges in stock. You can try them at 800/266-0470.

By electrical, what do you mean? Gas gauges and senders were electrical from 1936 on. Your gauge should have two connections on the back of it. And its electrical.
Most of the early electrical gauges quit working because the cardboard backing warped and caused the mechanism to rub against the warped cardboard and not move.

Baxter Ford in Kansas may have an original working gauge for your truck.

  the guage is original.
from one of the two post pickups there is a fine wire
attached to the needle assembly. it is broken.
I will first try to connect it via an electron microscope. ha!
Thanks for the help.

Check out Baxter Ford Parts before you try to re-attach the wire. The gauges usually sell for $25 or less.

If the wire is broken at the coil end, you may have a difficult time silver soldering it. Electrical solder will not work on the nichrome wire.

I have had the same problem and found one on ebay (entire cluster) for $40.00. Literally I just put it in and it works. So try ebay.
