I don't know the axle ratio on my '49 F-1 V/8 3 on the floor,I imagine it is in the 4's and I have gone to a 15" wheel....the truck is still being restored so I've yet to drive it...my question is can the gears be changed out to get to a higher ratio ????

The rear gears can certainly be changed, and it is a simpler job with the pickup 49 and later. However, I would drive it a while to see if the current gears work out. Most of the half ton trucks didn't have low axles unless they were special orders, so you may be OK as is.

The most common ratio in the F-1 pickup was 3.92. If the data plate is still on the inside of the glove box door it will list the rear axle ratio.
