Topic: F1 rear end

I have a 51 F1 pickup. It has a standard rear end (3.92). It cruises at 45 or so. I would like to change the ratio to get more cruising speed. Can I get a different set of ring and pinion gears. Are the brakes made for higher speed?

Many thanks

Peter

The brakes will be fine for the highway speeds. You can change the gears, but I'm not sure who may supply them. You might check with Joblot in New York as they carry a lot of commercial items. You can also se the later Ford pickup rear end in your truck. The rear end from 1957-1972 Ford pickups will bolt right into your pickup. It has the same wheel bolt pattern and is the same width. The advantage is the "drop out" third member which makes gear changes very easy. There is a variety of ratios in those rear ends. Your early brakes will actually fit the later rear end.
