I have spent several hours looking for an engine rebuild kit for my 37 Ford Pickup (85hp. Flathead V-8)). Anyone have any suggestions???
Thanks!!!

Thanks to another member, I was able to find a complete overhaul kit through Kanter for about $1800.

Thanks to everyone who responded!!!

The reason that complete kits are not available for older engines is that there is no way to know how worn they are. Until the bores and bearing journals are measured, the size of the piston rings and bearing inserts can't be determined. You can obtain complete gasket sets from most vendors, of course, and oversized inserts and rings from the same sources. It is best to take the stripped block to a good machine shop and have it cleaned, Magnafluxed for cracks, and the bores and bearings checked. Unless you have the equipment, I suggest that the valve seats be checked and replaced if badly worn. Most original seats don't have sufficient material left to provide a regrind.

I am not familiar with '37 models, but, generally, the parts are available individually. I bought pistons, rings, bearings, camshaft, valves, valve springs, adjustable followers, oil pump, gaskets and seals, timing gears, etc., for my '51 engine individually. Most of the usual suppliers will have the parts. I don't recall ever seeing a kit. Due to the different sizes of pistons, rings, bearings, etc., a kit, per se, is probably not practical. Before you buy any parts you should determine the size bearings and pistons and rings that you need. That will depend on the wear.
