helping a friend rebuild electrical system on 38 cab over, have new (original) brake light switch but have no idea how it is installed-truck was apart when he got it-anybody could take a picture of a brake light switch on any 38 truck for us?

Most of the brake light switches I've seen for that year are the type with a rod in the center, and mount with a built in bracket to a cross member. The eye in the switch rod is connected to a pin with a grooved head in the brake pedal assembly by a spring. I'm not familiar enough with a COE to know if that is typical. I've also seen the lever type switch, such as those used in earler years, mounted near the cross shaft.

Bob I finally had a chance to go thru the boxes of parts removed from the truck and found a switch like you describe, along with a bracket but still cannot find where it was mounted. We think we are going to use a lever arm switch like those on an "other" brand truck, thanks Alan

Alan: The parts books do show that some sort of bracket was used to mount the switch, but none show exactly how and where. We have used the Model A type lever switch on several vehicles, even a Cushman scooter, as they are easy to adapt. I suspect that restoring a COE is similiar to doing any other low production model. I got a real education when I did my '47 convertible a few years ago. Very little was the same as closed cars and when I did find parts, they were very pricey and often not in very good condition. Between the loss of salvage yards and foreign repro parts, restoration is taking a real hit.
