I HAVE A 39 FORD 1 1/2 TON TRUCK. MY ORIGINAL ENGINE WAS IN BAD SHAPE.I FOUND A USED ENGINE THAT RUNS BUT FROM WHAT I COULD FIND OUT FROM THE OWNER IS THAT IT WAS FROM A 37 1 1/2 TON. MY QUESTION IS, IS THERE A HORSEPOWER DIFFERENCE OR ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD BE AWARE OF BETWEEN A 39 AND A 37?

Just because it was from a 37 doesn't mean it was a 37 motor. Over the years most motors have been replaced with whatever was available. The 37 motor should have 21 studs on each head. The 39 motor has 24 studs on each head. HP is basically the same.

I was wondering what you mean in BAD shape ?
they are getting scare, before you scr*p it,
see if you can salvage it, it might be easier in the long run, is the 39 block cracked behond repair,?
if you buy a running engine, that is so so, you might be rebuilding that one also,
I would go though you 39 motor and make sure before moving on,
just my 3 cents, 37 RAGTOPMAN an KEEP on FORDIN,,,,
EARLY FORD SHOP in BALLSTON SPA, has rebuilts in stock,

the original 39 engine has been torn down and gone through.I have had 2 seperate opinions on it. it appears to be a sleeved engine, some say that is normal and others don't. either way by the time I installed sleeves pistons rings etc, the estimate was about 3,000.I will never scr*p it. it will stay on the shelf until I need it.the one I 37 engine I purchased is suppossed to be be a good runner and I did'nt pay alot for it.
