My 42 COE had an Fram oil filter remotely attached to the floor under the diver seat. It has a flange that bolts to a 6 inch dia hole in the floor. Don't know what cartridge it uses. Anyone interested in it or have some info about it ?? Was it also available with the regular truck? I appears to be orginal equipment but could have been part of the firetruck mod.

Al, That is the correct filter for a COE. I used a Wix 51021 element in the '47 COE I had. I don't remember the Fram number for the element. The element is the same diameter as the C4 Fram element Fords normally used, but about 1 1/2" -2" longer. I had a 51 Ford V8 F6 conventional cab parts truck that had the long filter like a COE but it was mounted on the inner fender with a special bracket. It was a US Army truck. With an old firetruck, you can find about any kind of modification. We have "civilianized" a couple of those, and all sorts of changes were usually made, both in the driveline and the controls, to allow pumping. The tradeoff with these trucks is that they usually are very low mileage, of course. That said, any old Ford truck is worth saving.
