I thought I had the 48 F2 running good. Bad luck! It seems that after it warms up it is back to no top end again,(40-45)mph It idles like a new truck.Sitting still you can give it the gas to the floor and it will not rev up much at all. No back fire. Sounds like a foul cylinder. I'm guessing coil or distributor? Help John

John: Have you checked for an exhaust system obstruction? I'd run a compression check, both dry and wet, and check fuel quantity delivery to know if the fuel pump is OK. Be sure that the distributor advance is working, and that the condenser isn't open. I'd bet on a weak fuel pump, a common cause of your problem.

Did you do a fuel delivery test? It will help determine if you are running out of fuel at highway speed.

To check fuel delivery, you need a graduated 16 ounce or larger container to determine the amount of fuel delivered in a measured time. Disconnect the fuel pump line from the carburetor and direct it into a graduated container. Crank the engine long enough to get 2 ounces of gas in the container and then continue cranking for 15 more strokes of the pump. The pump should have delivered 6 more ounces of gas.
