	i have a 42 ford pickup with the serial no and tran. now*99x2019424 i cant find this in any sequence of numbers from any book or serial no. source can does any one know what this is it is a 21c truck thanks

	If it is actually a 1942 truck, it would have been manufactured under a special set of conditions due to the embargo during WWII. The only exemption for civilian sale was for emergency vehicles and school buses. The rest were to be dedicated for military use. The prefix 99 was used for the '39 Mercury, and pickups of all years bore the designation 80. Other military used 830. 21A is given as the year 1942, so a pickup would be 21A-80A if the usual Ford system was used. If the serial number you give is stamped on the frame, it may have been one of those exceptions.

	thanks for the reply the pickup is title says 42 i looked more closely the serial no is *799y2019424* the 7 is hard to see but is there the pickup is is stamped on the frame 21 c which would make it according to books i have read as a 90 horse v8 221 cu in the numbers match on the trans and frame

	blutrk1, If that number is your final answer, I believe you have a 122" wheelbase truck. A 21C would have a 114" wheelbase. Still, that first digit 2 is wrong. Look again, as it may be a 7, which would be correct. Civilian motor car production stopped in early February, 1942. Unsold vehicles at that time were reserved for Doctors, Police and other emergency vehicles, and trucks were available for farmers and other essential trades. Alan

	The serial number that you provided falls in the range of serial numbers of the 1947 vehicles. Is this the number stamped on the frame or the number stamped on the transmission? Tom

	thanks for the info. the truck is stamped on the frame 21c it is also on the spare tire rack.the bed is a short bed i dont know what length i think its about 6 feet the number on the frame and the bell housing are *799y2019424*i just took another look at the numbers and i wonder if the second no. is a c instead of a zero if that were the case the numbers would be *799y2c19424*there is a tag on the front left cowl that reads clos-c27704 the truck has a 4 speed trans thanks This message was edited by blutrk1 on 7-27-10 @ 5:47 PM

	If the frame is stamped with a different number that the number stamped on the transmission, the transmission was changed, which is a common occurrance. Tom

	If the number you have is listed on the title, don't try to change it. That will open a whole new set of problems. As TomO says, it is unlikely that the truck has the original engine or transmission, as trucks were used hard, and most received "transplants" over the years. As I have often mentioned, don't buy any vehicle that doesn't have a current title.

	the numbers on the frame and trans are the same they have to be the original the title does not have these numbers they have the vin number off of the cab. thanks

	The serial number that you provided is for a 1947 vehicle. Your frame and transmission are from 1947. The cab of the 42-47 commercial vehicles is very similar and I could not tell the difference without seeing the serial number. Maybe someone with more experience with these years could step in and give more information. Tom

	to tom o i dont have a problem with the pickup being a 47 except for the fact that the frame is a 21 c and they did not maked these except in 42 the number on th frame should be different and also if the numbers match then i dont know unless they carried over the frames from 42 thanks for the info
