Started up okay, runs okay with choke out(Carb rebuild needed maybe, generator charges, runs 178 degrees on water temp(shooting it with heat gun on radiator tank). Now about the oil pressure? First start it-about 34-35 pounds oil pressure. After 30 minutes of slightly fast idle(only way it runs right now) oil pressure drops to about 13-15 pounds. Is this normal? I know oil has lots of Marvel Mystery Oil in it from freeing up the lifters, so I will change the oil and filter. I have always run 20-50 In old trucks in the deep south Texas area. Any brand in particular I should run?

Your oil pressure readings seem to be OK. If it were my Flathead, I would use a straight SAE 30 Weight Detergent conventional motor oil with 8 ounces of Red Line Engine Oil Break-In Additive to provide the required amounts of zinc and phosphorus (ZDDP) to reduce camshaft and valvetrain wear. The oil I have used in the Flatheads in conjunction with the above described additive is Pennzoil API Service SN.
