Topic: Vin numbers

I have a 1934 Ford 1/2 ton pickup registered and titled in Michigan. The title reads for the VIN number Mich 78684. This number is located in the door jamb of the driver side and looks rather shoddy. I have recently taken the car down to the frame and can find no numbers in the three spots they are normally found. I know that the prefixes for these years are usually 18 ---. Is this an assigned title?

Can't say for Mich but it sounds just like what an assigned vin in CA looks like. I had one on an OT MG that was attached to the frame and the tag faded to the point of almost being unreadable from sitting outside in the sun. A buddy has a '30 Tudor that has a CA assigned vin attached exactly where you say yours is. His was probably assigned when the 4 banger was replaced with a 59ab.

Her is a picture of the tag assigned by California (last 3 digits blanked out). I assume yours is similar. There is also one on the frame. How about a picture of yours?
