Topic: Fuel flow problem for53 flathead

I have a new fuel pump that seems to be working, but the inline clear fuel filter does not have any fuel in it, even when running. Also you can see fuel going into the glass bowl along with air bubbles. Is this normal? It does not seem to have a steady flow of fuel, yet the truck runs fine on the road. Thanks for help....Mickey First time on forum.

  Welcome to the Forum.

The connections for the filter are probably leaking air. This can lead to problems priming the fuel pump and carburetor.

I prefer not having an inline filter and just using the screen in the fuel pump. This requires that your tank and fuel line are rust free and in good condition.

Tom, thanks for your info and I will check out all the connections. The tank is original and was cleaned in 2010, so the inline filter may have to go. I will give you an update.

  that's normal,
to get the air out you have to purge it, but may come back again,
leave well enough alone,

Use ONLY cork gasket under the glass bowl. (NOT RUBBER) !!!. ken ct.

The spring clamps that came with the inline filter are not up to the job of sealing the connections. Toss them and replace them with screw clamps.

Thanks to all for the info, at this point I am going to remove the inline filter. No more bubbles, I hope! Mickey
