Topic: 1951 F1 speedometer

My speedometer cable broke. I replaced it. Didn't work. Installed another one.Didn't work. Bought and installed new speedometer. Didn't work. My trans is an 8M 7222 medium duty. My last resort is the driven gear or the drive gear, The driven gear looks fine (steel). Replacing the drive gear in the trans would entail removing the trans, etc. Does anyone have any advice?

You can check out the speedometer head by chucking a piece of speedometer cable with the square end going to the speedometer, into a drill and running the drill counter-clockwise.

You can check out the gears by connecting a cable to the transmission and driving the vehicle while someone watches the cable to see if it spins.

Tom: Thank you. Turns out the gears are probably OK. The cable was breaking inside its housing. I have yet another one on order. The cable bends a full right angle just beyond its connection port on the top of the trans. I may have bent it too sharply, although Henry allowed precious little space above the trans for this curve.
