remove the distributer and coil and send out to one of the rebuilders [ SKIP in FLA is one of them ] that advertise in the V8 TIMES, this would be the easiest to do, installing points and setting them correctly are for professionals. IF you HAVE THE K R WILSON DISTRIBUTER JIG for setting up the points that would be a big help, also involved is installing the bushings plus more, if you want to tackle it yourself, you should buy a repair manual to help guide you, but FORD used many special tools for this purpose, my 3 cents worth,37RAGTOPMAN

I'm not sure what you mean by "adjust the ignition". If the point gap and resulting "dwell" (the period both sets of points are closed) is correct, and the distributor is mounted correctly on the offset of the cam flange, the initial advance is fixed. There is a slide plate on the side of the distributor that will allow some additional advance, but it is unlikely that you will notice much difference. It was devised when fuel octane was quite low, in contrast to today's gas. Back then, if you heard "spark knock" (pre ignition) you moved the plate back until it went away. Now, when we rebuild distributors, we set the plate about midway in the slot. Even if you advance it fully, it is unlikely you will hear any spark knock.
