I am in the process of restoring a 1949 F4 truck. The original cowl to fender seal on my fenders is an extruded rubber seal that appears to be of the same material as a windshield or back glass seal and the same profile as the cowl to fender seal,(21C-16068) for a 1942-47 truck. It is also stapled to the flange of the fender like the 42-47 seal. All that I can find is the 7C-16068 seal which is a foam rubber material like a door weatherstrip. The 42-47 seal would work but they are cut too short for the 49-52 fenders. Thanks, Mark Poley This message was edited by 49fordv8f4 on 5-2-10 @ 3:05 PM

carpenter has the fender welt in rubber or black vinyl. 48-16070-RR or 48-16070. This should work.

Thanks for the reply Big Red 51, The seal you mentioned has a round bead that is exposed between the fender and body after it is installed. the gap between the cowl and front fender on the 48-52 trucks is too large for that seal to cover. The seal on my truck is "T" shaped. The top of the "T" is about 1/2"-5/8" wide and is what you see when you look at the juntion between the fender and cowl. The leg of the "T" is about 1"-1 1/2" long and is stapled to the fender flange. The 42-47 fender to cowl seal is the same , but I can't find anyone who will cut me a pair long enough for my 49 truck. They are about 6" longer than a 42-47 seal and they all come precut for a 42-47 truck. Thanks Again, Mark

Mark, try Metro Moulded Parts. http://www.metrommp.com/ Or Lynn Steele. http://www.steelerubber.com/ They make a lot of the reproduction rubber. Tom

The truck seal is especially made for the '48-'52 trucks and is a sponge type material which allows the front fenders, grille, radiator, etc., to move as a unit independently of the cab. It's a poor design, but it's a Ford! (Maybe it was a better idea?) The same set-up was used on the '53-'56 trucks, I believe. Carpenter and lots of others sell the seals. Steele does not make Ford parts. Richard
