Topic: 8BA Coolant Quantity?

I have a 1950 F-1 that came with an 8BA engine instead of the 8RT. The coolant system including the radiator will only hold 17 quarts whereas the shop manual says that the F-1setup should hold 23. Could the discrepancy be due to a difference in the radiator sizes used in the 8BA vs 8RT or something else? Everything I have read says that the 8BA and 8RT engines are almost identical. Does anyone have an 8RT that actually holds 23 quarts of coolant?

are you sure you have a truck radiator? the top tank on the truck radiator has an X in the center of the tank. I am sure those quantities listed can be taken with a ''grain of salt'' and were probably listed to the largest capacity core on a truck.

I checked my radiator and, yes, it has an X stamped into the front of the tank. Someone else suggested that maybe the block doesn't fully drain through the radiator petcock but that some might remain inside the bottom of the block. Anyone know if the bottom of the block has some drain plugs that need to be removed for a full coolant drainout?
