Topic: 1933 ford

I recently purchased a 1933 3 window original car that has been in storage since 1971. I found the serial number on the chassis on the drivers side in the engine compartment. Could any one tell me if that serial number will be on the engine block and where I can find the numbers on the engine.

The serial number will not be on the engine block but should be on a boss on the transmission. Of course if the transmission has been replaced the number will not match the one on the frame. DMV will want to use the number on the frame.

thank you, would you know if there is any source that could give me build information on this car from the serial number.

The only information you will get from the serial number is when the engine/transmission assembly passed final inspection. After the engine/transmissions passed final inspection they were shipped to the various assembly plants and thus no "build information" was encoded in the serial number like on a modern VIN. You can find the serial numbers at: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm

Is it correct to assume you have a V8 engine and not a 4 cylinder? A 4 cylinder would require a minor tweak on my previous response. The serial number on a 4 cylinder vehicle is stamped into the flywheel housing and not the transmission case. How about a picture? What serial number do you find, use XXX for the last 3 digits if you prefer.
