Topic: 1938 V8 Truck Windows

Hey, I'm wondering how I can get the side window out of my '38 V8 Truck... So I can get a replacement made for the other side which is missing one. Do I just cut out the stuff holding it in the bracket? (What is it rubber? It seems hard... Might just be old hard rubber.) Or do I unscrew the window gears and stuff on the inside and somehow find a way to make it collapse so I can pull out the window and the bracket? Thanks a lot.

The material holding the glass to the channel is called "packing", and is usually a rubber-like material. Finding the correct packing can be a problem, and pulling off the channel often results in glass breakage because of age. If you just need one window, it is probably better to order it from an old glass specialis with a pattern, anyway, and get the channel installed at the same time. Most modern auto glass places don't know how to work on laminated glass. Many truck doors require lowering the glass and the regulator as a unit, then pulling the "hairpins" that hold the channel in place so the glass can be pulled out.
