Topic: 1940 Mercury Foglamps

Is there any difference between the correct Fog lights for a Mercury as opposed to a Ford? In my brief research, it appears a company called 'Unity' pretty much fabricated all the fog lamps for all brands (GM, Dodge, etc)... But the only difference was there was a little Cap on top of the housing. Is this correct?

Richauf - please review the responses to your "12v or 6v?" post of 11/13. TomO gave you the answer to your/this question in his reply to that post which also had a link to very good resource documentation.

Rick, I don't know when or if that Mercury cap was used. None of my sales literature or parts catalogs show any name plates for the road lamps.

I believe that those lights with the name plates, came into being some time after WWII and were not an authorized accessory.

I am not saying that you should not put them on your Mercury, only that they would not be correct for the car and if the car were to be point judged again, you would lose points.

I think that your car had reached the Dearborn Emeritus class and would qualify for a walk around inspection on the Concourse. I believe that Milly Scheidt has the records will tell how many Dearborn Awards your car has won, if you don't have them from your Dad.

I have a 5 page discussion from The Ford Forum from March 6, 2012 that details the exact description of the correct 1940 fog lights that were dealer installed in that year. I can also send you detailed pictures of the correct fog lights and the switch. I just recently was lucky enough to purchase mine on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. Send me your email or mail address and I will get it all to you. my email is jerandbee@yahoo.com.
