Topic: Rear window trim

I had to remove the rear window of my early '47 Merc coupe in order to replace the headliner. I bought a new seal, but I haven't been able to get the stainless trim into the grooves. The window is currently installed without the trim. What is the secret to inserting the trim?

Put the trim in the rubber before installation.

Is this the seal that you have?

I used car wash soap as a lube to install the strip on my windshield.

We tried that, but the seal was folded up when shipped and we couldn't get it to lay flat enough to get the right shape for the trim. I guess if I remove it now it should retain its shape.

Yes, that is the seal I bought. We tried spraying silicone on it to no avail. I thought of using dish soap, but my headliner guy said silicone was better. I think I'll try the soap next time.
