Topic: 49-51 Mercury front fender Stone Guards

I recently purchased a pair of NOS front fender lower stainless steel Moldings. In my parts manual it is listed as a curb buffer and I have seen this described as a stone or gravel guard as well. This trim piece is located directly above the rocker panel curb buffer molding as well. My parts manual does not specify what model of Mercury these were used on and some mention these were found on the Mercury Monterey. Was this item and the rocker panel curb buffer an optional item that could be ordered for a Mercury Coupe, Sport Sedan, and Monterey or was this option only available to the Monterey?

If you are referring to P/Ns OL 16210 and OL 16211 they were available for all 50 and 51 cars except the Station Wagon. They were installed more often on Convertibles and Montereys and very seldom on the other models.

  Thanks Tom!
Yes that is the one and all they have listed in my OEM 1949-52 parts manual is a 1M 7210176 and 1M 7210177 for the rocker panel curb buffer listed for a 1951 1M except 79. The 0L 16210 and 0L 16211 front fender lower edge curb buffer are listed for 0M and 1M except 79 so I would assume the rocker panel curb buffer I have listed here is for both 1950&51. As for the kit it lists MBK 18243-A for 1M except 79. A very hit and miss parts manual to say the least! As far as I can tell this was a kit that you could order to dress up your Merc. After I stumbled across these moldings and if they were a correct accessory item for my very stock 1950 Mercury I would put them on.

Do you know of any venders that supply correct rocker trim?

TomO    -- 05-12-2015 @ 7:33 AM
No, I don't know any vendors that have the correct rocker trim. It is not being reproduced, so you will have to search for NOS or good used and have the used restored. I think that it would be unusual to find NOS, but you can try searching Rear Counter for it>

You can check with the recyclers that advertise in Hemmings to see if they have a good used set. French Lake in Minnesota has been a good source of parts as well as the Arizona yards. There are a couple of Florida recyclers that advertise Mercury parts also.

You might try Merle Fourez @ Classic Mercury.

I bought a set from him about 5 years back and they were perfect for my 1951 Convertible Merc. The finishing touch looked great. Comes with a body template also.
