Topic: 39 Merc Hubcap

I had hoped to do some dent removal on the stainless center cap, however it appears they are intended to be permanently crimped onto the steel main portion of the hubcap, is this correct?? Or is there a means of removal?

Thank you!

I haven't done it, but I've read many posts that advise drilling a small hole in the backside, and blowing it apart with compressed air, while assuring a soft landing for the center cap with a towel or a pillow. Reinstallation by compression.

  Alan,
Thanks for the response, that is an interesting approach!

So, how did that work? How did you get the cap back on?

i attempted that method but it worked once; all other caps too rusted. an alternative that is fraught with risk of distortion is to place a thin wire at/under the edge of the cap and gently use it as a wedge under the lip of the cap by twisting it tighter while pushing the wire under the cap lip using gentle tapping with a thin device like a screwdriver applied to the wire. of course I used lots of pb-blast.
