Topic: 53' Merc Cconvertible top boot

What material was used for the 1953 Mercury convertible top boot?

TomO    -- 10-01-2014 @ 7:11 AM
In the 50's most boots were made of vinyl. Check with the V-8 Club's adviser for a better answer.

What are the dimensions and the material of the storage bag for the boot? Pictures would be great.

That appears to be Ray Beebe...how do I e-mail him or call him?

The 52-53 Mercury adviser is Doug Schull. His contact information is printed the current issue of the V-8 Times and the Roster. You must be a member of the V-8 Club to receive his assistance.

I cannot answer you questions in detail, because I do not have access to to a correctly restored car.

Seeing your posting on this site I assume you are a EFV8C member. Try looking in your "ROSTER" for Ray"S or "Doug's" number.RAY is in NY don't know where DOUG is from.

Thank you both. Now that I have what state they are in looking them up in the directory was easy. I now have calls in to both:

I don't think that it is a good idea to post other people location and phone number on the web, especially without their permission.

Per Doug and my body parts book: The part number is BC 7654486 AA and the body parts book refers to it as "Container Assembly (top dust hood)". It was eventually made from the left overs from the tops. So the material would be Haartz Cloth, No pictures, diagrams or dimensions as of yet.

The P/N you gave is for the bag for the top boot, not the top boot. They were made of the same material as the top. What did Doug say about the boot material?

  TomO,

You are correct as to the part number is for the boot bag. The question has evolved from what was the material used on the boot (which has been confirmed to be vinyl) to what was the material used on the "boot bag". I am currently looking for pictures, dimensions or measurements for the boot bag. Doug felt that the "boot bag" was made from the scr*ps from the top. Making it the same color and material as the top, which would have been the Haartz cloth. His only suggestion was to call Dearborn and have them look up the drawings and pay the $35.00 for a photo copy of the drawings. But I feel with the large membership herein involved, someone would have access to an original boot bag.It appears that the boot bag was lost early on in the ownership of the car.
