I am looking at a 52 Mercury the Data plates says trim 31 but my manual doesn't list a 31 Any help?

The trim is probably 81, Green-Broken Stripe Broadcloth. The 8 may not have been stamped correctly. A photo would confirm this. Tom

You are right Tom,, 81 not 31 and it is green stripe broad cloth.. Trouble is someone else bought the car..
