Any sources of information on what the original color(s) were for the engines and transmissions of '46 & '47 Mercury Eights are appreciated. I have not been able to confirm whether it was green or blue, both, or whether the color was dependent on the vehicles body color. If the latter, is anyone aware whether a color matrix or legend exists that specifies the correct colors by body color? Thanks in advance. Steve

The 95 and 100 HP engine were painted blue starting in 1941. So your engine would have been painted blue. I am not certain about the transmission color. They were usually painted the same color as the engine, but some people have claimed that they were painted green. If yours is original to the car (serial number matches the frame number), I would leave it the color that it is currently painted. There was an letter in the Jan/Feb 1993 V-8 Times about engine color that states that the engine and transmission were painted the same color and has a table with the engine colors by year for the Ford and Mercury.
