Anyone got a template to make a back mount for the rear seat of a 40 Merc. conv?

I'm not an expert on '40 convertibles, but have done others. Usually, there are hooks on the panel behind the seat that engage the top of the seat spring, or hooks on the seat that mate with brackets on the panel. Most then secure the botton of the seat back to the panel with screws thru the two legs that extend below the seat back. As these can't be seen when the seat is in place, you can fabricate them to suit the need without being "correct". Same is true of board, which is shaped to match the seat top contour, and fastened to the structure of the top well. It should be 3/4 nch thick, as the top boot snaps usually are mounted there. The board can be covered with plastic leather for appearance. I have used the LeBaron Bonney kits which supply the covers.

Thanks for the advice. I have contacted Lebaron Bonney and we'll see if they have anything to offer.

I have found where the seat attaches to the floor, there are three brackets, but can't see where they attach to anything in the upper part of the seat. I know there has to be something there to contain the top when it is down and that is usually the back of the seat. Just can't see where that is going.

Merry Christmas!

Do you have the cross brace? There should be 2 slots about 1' in from the edges in the cross brace. There should be 2 tabs on the back of the seat that fit into these slots.

The top well is behind the cross brace.
