Topic: 1951 Mercury Driving Lights

  Hi-

I have a 1951 Mercury and am looking to mount driving lights on the bumper. Does anyone have information about where to mount them in terms of inches from the bumper guard and from the top lip of the bumper? I appreciate any help on this.

Thanks.

Mike

I've seen the lamps for sale as removed from a previous installation but I have not yet seen an NOS complete kit for sale anywhere yet. That kit should have had any drill location templates that would have been associated with the original kit. All I have to go by as of yet, is the Mercury Styled Accessory Catalog. The lamps appear to have been centered between the 2nd & 3rd grill bars outboard of the overriders (bumper guards). The mounting stems appear to be near flush with the rear edge of the bumper up on the top surfaces. Those sales pictures can be deceiving though. They are sometimes airbrushed or doctored so it's hard to trust them. I always figure they would have been centered with the 6 outboard grill bars but it's hard to say how they wanted the installation to look.

Someone is bound to have a template or at least a copy of one somewhere to get you more accurate and precise dimensions for the drilled hole locations. Even measurements from a bumper of a properly installed kit would do ya. I'd be interested to know too. My old overhaul manual has an accessories tab in the back but there are no pages there.
