Can anyone tell me the part numbers or a description of these two parts? Just found out while putting a Columbia on my 47 that I have a 1940 rear end. Thank you Kris

The 1940 Mercury did not have a rear torsion bar. The P/N for the 1947 rear torsion bar is 51A-4264. The 1940 Mercury had a rear track of 58" and the 47 had a rear track of 50". The 1940 rear end has a one piece drive shaft with the pinion gear pressed on the shaft. The 47 drive shaft has a sleeve that connects the drive shaft with the pinion gear. I doubt that you could adapt a stock 1940 Mercury rear end to a 1947 Mercury without serious chassis modifications. If you have the 1940 Columbia, check with John McDonald about installing it on your 47 Mercury. Tom
