I want to put a columbia rear end on my Merc. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Does anyone make them new? Does anyone know of any articles on the subject? Thank you

They show up occasionally in the classified section of the web site. No one makes them new, but John Connelly, the web site coordinator rebuilds them to better than new condition. Tom

Daisy, I agree with Stroker. A Columbia will add at least its cost to the value of your Mercury, the other overdrives do not add as much of their original cost to the value. Tom

Daisy: Good move! Be sure and check out the previously-referenced Columbia website, and do keep us informed of your "trials & tribulations", as many of us have Columbia experience. Once you get it installed and working, I'm sure you will be pleased with "The Skyway Drive". I do not presently have mine installed in my 38, as I clumsily broke it in the 50's by trying to out drag a fellow street racer in low-overdrive. I found good replacement "innards" in the 70's, but am going to upgrade to the new beefed-up internal ring gear before I re-install it. Originally, mine was equipped with a 4.44:1 ring & pinion, which I changed out to 4:11:1 just prior to breaking it. I currently am running a 3.78:1, and am thinking of using it with the Columbia, since I live in the "flatlands". The lower the ring & pinion "numerical ratio" the less torque is applied to the planetary gearset in the Columbia, which is the weak-link.
