Topic: Garnish molding removal

I am in the process of removing the outside stainless trim from the doors of my 39 Mercury town sedan to prepare the doors for refinishing. To get them off correctly without damage, the door panels and garnish moldings must be carefully removed. When Henry designed the clips for the for the garnish moldings he did not intend for them to come off or rattle. They are on there very tight. Any tips on how to remove them? Thanks,
Steve

I have a sedan coupe and the garnish moldings are different from your sedan. From what I remember the 39 Mercury is similar to the 40-48 Ford. Here is a link to replacing the door glass. It includes the instructions for removing the garnish moldings.

Thanks for the link and information Tom. I will try pushing up on the molding as I compress the spring clip. Patience helps too.
