Have recently replated the "shiny" stuff up front...with less than a 100% result...question: were the back sides of the 2 grills painted? If so, what color was used? Thanks, Peder

Are you talking about the upper grilles or the lower grills?
Originally the back sides were not painted. If you need to paint them, use Argent color.

Chrome plating pot metal is a difficult process. There are many firms that try to do this with less than satisfactory results. Some firms just copper plate, buff the parts, then nickel plate and finally chrome plate. A part done by this process may still have pits and be larger than original size.

Good shops copper plate, then fill the larger pits, plate with 'acid copper' to fill the smaller defects, polish the parts back to the original size, nickel plate, polish and then chrome plate.

Where are you located? Maybe someone knows a good plater in your area.

Sorry Tom, I should have mentioned it was the upper grills...and I already have replated them along with the EIGHT and MERCURY pieces. The replater said that he thought the back sides were painted. And he said that, like you, it is difficult to replate pot metal. Not many replate in Norway, and this source seems to be the most reliable and skillful. Did my front bumper there, with an excellent result.
