I am trying to find the color name of my 1949 Mercury. The paint code on the car is 05.I checked the auto color library on this web site and I cannot find it.
Can anyone help me with this? Thanks; Marilyn

Marilyn, the 49 Mercs came in the following colors; Black. Alberta Blue,Royal Bronze Blue Metallic,Dakota Gray,Biscay Blue Metallic,Barwick Green Metallic,Bermuda Cream,Lima Tan Metallic,Tampico Red Metallic. The Sport Sedan and the 6 passenger coupe came in two tone. Upper body Banff Green Metallic-lower body Berwick Green Metallic or upper body Lima Tan Metallic-lower body Haiti Biege Metallic.
This color information comes from the V-8 Album which was published by the Early Ford V-8 Club. A reprint of this book is available from the club and can be purchased on this site. The book does not give the code for each color.

I could not find paint code "5" for a 1949 Mercury. The paint codes that I found were all 2 digit numbers. See

http://www3.sympatico.ca/guinnessd/dmcmerc/codes/serial.html

for the paint codes in the 49-51 Mercury shop manual.

Thank you for your reply. The previous owner stated the color was lima tan and I wanted to confirm it. I was unable to find that color in my research.I really wanted to know that it is a authentic original color.
Thanks again
Marilyn

You can see a representation of the color on Auto Color's website. It is on the page with the 2 tone colors.

  Marilyn-

Paint code 05 is the code for Lima Tan Metallic, a seldom-seen color on a 1949 Mercury. The corresponding interior trim code for this color is 58 (Green Check Broadcloth), or 60 (Beige Cord). I have only seen one car built in this color, a 1949 coupe I used to own that now resides in TX.

Marilyn, I am restoring my father-in-laws 49 Merc Convertible. It is lima tan and I had it painted the original color. My email address is clinton.moyer@us.army.mil If you contact me I'll send you pictures and would really like to see pictures of yours.
