I did some searching online. I believe that center cap is for 1954. TIM CARLIG

If you have the black steering wheel, you would use the center cap that is for the 1953 Mercury. The 52, 53 center cap is for the accessory steering wheel. From memory, (which is mostly faulty) the Mercury head was chrome with a red surround, similar to the hub cap. Tom
