Topic: 1950 Mercury Eight Station Wagon

I'm about to pick this car/truck/light commercial/vehicle up and am not sure how it was classified by Mercury. When looking for parts, are the car suspension and brake parts similar if the wagon is not specifically called out?

Yes, 1949-1951 station wagons had their specific part numbers.
I believe that 8M was the prefix for Mercury station wagons.

Now, that does not mean that was the case for all parts, just those that were station wagon only.

thanks nelsb01, let me show you what I'm looking at. Also, I'm asking about the mechanical parts. The attached jpg shows trucks or cars but no further breakdown. Is the wagon based on the car chassis and running gear? I suspect so, but for the lack of confidence, I have to ask. I understand that body parts would certainly be station wagon from the cowl back, likely car from the cowl forward.

  Yes and no.
The engine and transmission will be the same, but things like the rear springs will be wagon only.
I would suggest that you try and find a 1949 - 1953 Mercury Chassis Parts Catalogue.

That will assist you in referencing parts.

  Ah ha, found one.

Faxon did not have one, took a little more searching. Now to acclimate from GM parts books to Ford-based parts books

I picked up the car and it is very much what I was expecting. The body had never rusted nor has it ever been in a collision. Cosmetically, the car is solid. Mechanically, the car needs some sorting. The tires were new back when Regan was president, the right front brake grabs hard, the engine has a bit of a blue puff and many of the seals are no longer tight. The trans shifts nicely. The tires are so bumpy that I can't tell much of the suspension condition yet. I'll have it on jack stands in the next two weeks for a better review. For now, here's a few photos:
