Hello, I have a 48 Mercury Coupe with an 8BA swapped in. Otherwise stock. I just got it running by hotwiring it. The harness was junk (little original wire anyway). Poorly strung and not worth trying. I have a new 21 circuit 12v harness for it now. 1. My question is how did they run the wires from the factory out of the firewall? I know that at least most of them came out from the big oval hole on the driver side, did some (engine?) Come through the hole right behind the fuel pump? I see where the stock starter relay, horn relay, and voltage regulator go. That is no problem, I am mostly looking to see how the factory ran the wiring. I also see some cars with a blower squirrel cage on the passenger side of the firewall, presumably for a heater. I have a factory looking heater box under the dash. What are the differences? What were the factory wiring harnesses loomed in? Cloth wrapping I assume? Thank you, John Cataldo

You might want to consider ordering a reproduction harness for easier installation and fit. It looks neater installed than generic harnesses. Here is a topic on recommendations for vendors of reproduction harnesses for Ford products. https://www.earlyfordv8.org/forum/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=18&Topic=13553 Here is a link that shows how the wiring was routed on a Ford. It is very similar to the Mercury. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_electrical-pics/Flathead_Electrical_wirediagram1946-48car.jpg Tom
