Just got a 46 Merc coupe; hood opens good but will drop down about a foot. Makes it hard to work on motor. Any correction other than replacing hinges>?Also, can I replace just1 hinge to correct problem?

New Hood Hinge Springs may work for you. Here is a link to Dennis Carpenter's website. He has some springs in stock that might solve your problem. https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/trucks/body/hood/91a-16789-hood-support-arm-spring

Those Merc hoods are heavy and probably use the same tension springs as the Fords. I tightened the Mounting bolts to less in the open drop to two inches. More effort to open and close, but not bad.
