Hey All Any one have figured out how to safely remove, clean up and refinish a 2 tone 1940 Merc steering wheel and horn button? I have read about using a couple different tools but I’m concerned about damaging this 80 year old part, Thanks& happy holidays! Merc5340

To remove the horn button, disconnect the battery, push down on the button and turn counter clockwise. To remove the wheel, use a steering wheel puller. There are 2 threaded holes for the puller in the wheel. If all of the cracks are filled in the steering wheel, use the same paint as you have for the dash, but add a flex additive to the paint. The plastic moves more then the metal. I would not try to refinish the horn button. The engraving is too shallow and will disappear when you try to paint it. Tom
