I recently purchased a 1953 Mercury and am trying to decode the data plate, Serial No. 53SL90811M, Style BG73B, Body Spec 07-352-28G-230. Where can I go to see a table of codes? Any help is appreciated.

Congratulations on your new vehicle. OK, using the 1949-53 Mercury Chassis Parts Catalogue............ 53SL90811M 53 model year, SL St Louis, 90811 sequencial vehicle not sure what the M stands for BG73B 73B is a Four Door Sedan The remaing numbers and letters should be the exterior color, the interior color and upholstery. Sorry i do not have information on that and it is not listed in the catalogue. Others should have more info.

Congrats on your new car. I hope that you enjoy your 53 Mercury as much as I did mine. Please post some photos of your car. Here are the codes form the 1953 Lincoln Mercury Supplement. They show up quite frequently on E-Bay in the Lincoln Search. Tom
