Topic: HELP! 1950 Merc with 1949 parts???

We have a 1950 Mercury 4dr sedan that we found out has 1949 center bumper trim, armrests, stainless trim on door panel, and fender trim. Any chance that these are left over parts they used on this car at the factory? All the numbers say it is a '50. The vin tells me it is an early one built at St. Louis. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

Very nice car. Ford often didn't have a firm line of demarcation between models, so it isn't unusual to find late cars of one year to have trim or other features of the next. "running changes" were a Ford policy so no unused parts remained on the factory floor. This resulted in conflicts between the serial numbers and the appearance of the car. If you read the fine Club '41-'48 book, it vividly shows this mixing. Many of us wish the "VIN" system had been used earlier so we could confirm car features. Other than the prefix, the Ford system simply gave the serial (production) order of its output.
